Ten Chinese quality companies from halal food, financial and infrastructure sectors will officially enter Port Klang Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Malaysia.

Contracts were signed between the two sides during the China-Malaysia International Trade Summit which witnessed launching of China Area of Port Klang Free Trade Zone International Trade and Halal Industrial Center in Beijing on Friday.

Xia Baowen, president of Malaysia SM International Wholesale (China) Center Sdn Bhd, general operator of Port Klang FTZ hopes more Chinese companies will enter the free trade zone to enjoy preferential policies and convenient one-stop service.

Xia said the advantages of Port Klang FTZ mean new chances for Chinese enterprises to explore international market, adding that it will join hands with free trade zones in Tianjin, Fujian and Guangdong to build platforms for Chinese halal product companies to go abroad and give impetus to the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road construction.

Port Klang is a “treasure place” to develop industries, said Zhou Keren, President of China Shippers’ Association and former vice Minister of Commerce. Port Klang is the world's 12th largest and second largest port in Southeast Asia, playing a comprehensive role in industry, commercial, trade and logistics.

Zhou encouraged more Chinese enterprises to seize the chance and take advantages of geographic and industrial uniqueness of Port Klang FTZ to enter the Malaysian market and go global.

Ong Chong Yi, Minister Counsellor (Economic) of Malaysian Embassy in China, welcomed Chinese enterprises to Port Klang to discuss business opportunities brought about by the construction of the port, one important cooperative project between the two countries.

The launching of Halal Industrial Center will promote bilateral economic and trade relations, said Wang Zhiguo, former vice president of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, director-general of National Business Association Cooperation Center
