Product detail:Descriptions:

Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1768-G, KM31, Cal. 666, AU. Even though Guatemala became part of colonial Spain in 1541, it never got its Mint until 1733. Initially, minting was very limited and mostly cob gold coins were produced. Similarly a very small quantity of gold doubloons were minted between the years of 1754 and 1768. Most if not all of 8 Escudos minted in Guatemala prior to 1817 are of great rarity. The specimen presented here is a one-year type and features a unique Carlos III bust. This coin has light orange gold with some original luster, nicely struck and great eye appeal. Calico states that "only a few specimens are known". Ex-Eliasberg, from B.Max Mehl's sale of the Thomas W. Voetter Collection, January 1943, Lot 156
