The Rice contains Anti-oxidants
Padi Bajong is one of many traditional coloured rice varieties that are grown in Sarawak. The red colour comes from the presence of Anthocyanin pigments in the pericarp (outer seed coat), or within the starchy endosperm of the paddy seed in certain varieties. The colour can range from light brown through different hues of red to deep purple and black. Anthocyanin is known as a powerful anti-oxidant which can reduce the level of free radicals in the body system. A high level of Anthocyanin in foods is believed to provide potential health effects against cancer, aging and neurological diseases, inflammation, diabetes, and bacterial infections.
