Panawood Mulya Industry produces high quality wooden furniture, both contemporary and traditional, for export from a modern factory in Bandung on the island of Java in Indonesia. The furniture is made of solid wood and is assembled. It is for indoor use and covers, bedroom, dining and living areas. There are 5 ranges and a total of more than 100 items. Merkusi pine is the main timber source but other local woods such as sungkai, munchang and bayur are used. A range of finishes including lacquered, waxed and painted are available. The site is 4. 4ha with existing production areas, finishing plant, kiln drying facilities and warehousing occupying 12, 500m2. Timber is dried in 3 temperature-controlled chambers made in Italy. There are also wood working machines made in Italy and Germany and other machinery from Japan, Taiwan and China. Production capacity is 1000 m3 a month and 268 people are employed. The Company was established in March 1998 and was initially a supplier of knockdown furniture to IKEA in Sweden, Kay-elin the USA and several Japanese importers. In 2002 it began to supply high quality reproduction furniture to the UK and this has become its most important market. However, the Company is also developing export markets in USA, Europe and Australia and exhibits at furniture fairs in Singapore, UK, Australia, USA, and Germany
