The legendary origin of tea drinkinghas been traced back to the Chinese Emperor Chen Nung of 2737BC, whowas also a scholar and herbalist, who discovered this detectable drinkwhen he was sitting beneath a tree while his servant was boiling a potof water. A few leaves from a tea plant (Camellia Sinensis) droppedinto the pot of water, gave an excellent aroma and he found it tastedas good when sipped.
The tea plant is essentially tropicaland sub-tropical and therefore has wide climatic range. It is found atvarying altitudes and classified accordingly.
Tea grown at elevations over 1,200 meters above sea level is classified as High-grown and superior in aroma.
The tea at an elevation below 600 meters is thick, coloury and distinguished as Low-grown.
The Medium-grown Teas are those that fall in between these two elevations.
