Sonokeling is a medium to heavy weight hardwood with characteristic streaks of ash gray, black, to dark purple and light brown. It is a valuable material, used for high-end furniture, decorative veneers, souvenirs and handcrafted products.
Origin and distribution - Sonokeling is found in tropical and subtropical regions of all continents, under the names Indian Rosewood and Palissandre. Botanical name, Dalbergia Latifolia, Dalbergia Sissoo. Family name, Legu Minosae. The colour is general fairly uniform.
