Profile

Agarwood, also called aloeswood (in religious texts), gaharu (in Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea), jin-koh (in Japan), Ch´en Hsiang or Ch´en Xiang (in China), Chim-Hyuang (in Korea) and oud (in the Middle East), is a resin produced inside a tropical rainforest tree called Aquilaria. The dark resinous wood has a magnificent aroma when burned. It is considered the finest natural incense and has been used for cultural, religious and medicinal purposes for millennia.

Burning these cone provides one of the best ways to enjoy the finest agarwood aroma with little smoke. The cone can be lighted with a match or candle. Just take a piece, light an end, and quickly blow out the flame. Repeat this process a few times to generate sufficient aroma. The aromatic compounds are released when the agarwood is burned and will rise quickly to the top of the room. The fragrance will be noticed immediately but is best after a few minutes when the aroma has filtered down into the room where it will linger for some time during meditation, relaxation or simply for your enjoyment. Cone can also be placed on lighted charcoal in a censer or used in the Japanese style of incense burning (such as the koh-doh ceremony). Also available is a finely ground agarwood powder to burn on charcoal or to use in making your own incense.
