Distribution: Japan and other Pacific islands. Some islands in Indian Ocean. East Africa.
Biotope: On the high areas of the beaches, near the mouth of mangrove rivers, but also on clear areas like meadows or lawns, near to habitations.
Size: Length of front part of cephalothorax up to 32 mm (1"1/4).
Colour: Indian red when juvenile, then bluish up to dark blue, sometimes nearly black. Easily recognizable due to his flaming antennas.
