Distribution: Indo-pacific, Red Sea, heavily protected in Japan and Australia.
Biotope: Coastal areas, beaches, coral sand banks
Size: Length of the front part of cephalothorax (head) up to 18 mm (6/8").
Colour: Orange to bright red, scattered with white granules, (therefore also called "Strawberry crab"). When juvenile, sometimes lighter, with white spots, sometimes (rarely) nearly white. Some albinos ore melanic specimens may be found.
