This old piece (c. 1950) is woven in the warp ikat method, whereby the warp threads are tied off by dye-resisting materials to produce a pattern or decoration after dying with natural dyes. This process is repeated for each additional color. After the dyeing process is finished, the hand spun ramie threads are attached to and woven on a backstrap loom.
Hung on the wall as is, framed or used as a table cover, this would be a unique decoration for home or office.
