Typical Applications

die holders, zinc die casting dies, backers, bolsters and injection moulds.  

Chemical composition (%) 

Steel properties:

Plastic mould steel with additional sulphur, usually supplied in a quenched and tempered condition. Polishable, better machinibility compared to 1.2311. Similar to AISI P20+S.

Process: EAF +LF +VD +ESR +forged or hot rolled + heat treatment (optional)

Surface condition: Black/ round machine/ Turned

Inspection:Ultrasonic test, according to SEP1921D/d or customer requirements

Thermal Treatments

Forging: Heat slowly, allowing sufficient time for the steel to become heated through. begin forging at 1050°C. not forge below 930°C reheating if necessary. After forging, cool very slowly.

Stress Relieving: When dies are heavily marchined, recommend stabilishing just before finish machining in order to relieve machining strains. heat to 460-500°C, Soak well and allow to cool in the air.

Annealing: Heat uniformly to 710-740°C.  Soak well, cool slowly in the furnace.

 Hardening: heat to uniformly to until heaeted through. Quench in oil.

Delivery Condition

Forged + Annealed + Machining (Peeled/Turned)

DIN1.2312 mould steel can be supplied in various finishes including hot-rolled, pre-machined, fine-machined and precision ground. It is also available in the form of hollow bar.

Plate/sheet steel: Thickness:15-500mm; width:200-2500mm; Length: 2000-5800mm
